Extending the Life of Wood Putty or Spackling Compound

By Bob Formisano, About.com

Wood Filler in Plastic Tubs Are Not Well Sealed

Wood putty or spackling compound are used often in basic home repair. Problem is they often come in little plastic tubs and after a few uses, you find them drying out. Why? Because the base evaporates due to the tub top not sealing tightly.

Well here's a little tip on how to extend the usable life of your wood putty or spackle. Simply cover the tub with a household plastic wrap like Saran Wrap® and then place the tub cover on tightly. This helps seal the air out of the putty or spackle and extends the usable life of the product.
